Spotlight on LED Signage at Universities

Spotlight on LED Signage at Universities

There are three key components to a successful parking guidance system: sensors, software and signs. This week’s product spotlight will focus on INDECT’s intelligent LED signage.

Anyone who has ever driven a car knows that proper signage is important. From reading street signs to navigating a complex parking garage, knowing how to get where you are going can profoundly impact the quality of your day.

To be effective, wayfinding signage must be clear, visible and informative. INDECT’s versatile LED modules bring signs to life. High-quality double-row digits available in three sizes and many colors, combined with user-group-specific guidance symbols make every sign an easy-to-see decision point.

When students arrive at the Lake Street Garage at Colorado State University, they can easily tell how many spaces are available on each level. The large digits on INDECT’s monument style sign help the students make a quick decision as they rush to make that 8:00am lecture.

Further south, Texas A&M University opted for easy-to-read green digits and arrows to direct their staff and students to the available internal spaces on campus with a clear blue wheelchair symbol pointing the way to the accessible parking.

Brightness is controlled through our customizable software or can be set to automatic depending on the ambient light. There are many fine-tuning display options and manual overrides available to ensure the visibility and messaging are just right.

Oklahoma University wanted their wayfinding signs to stand out from the crowd so they recently chose to install INDECT’s fully customizable LED matrix signs in their Jenkins Garage. LED matrix signs offer the ultimate in flexibility. They are a full-color, blank LED screen that can be used to display a wide range of content from garage counts, directions, user groups and images to advertising, welcome or emergency messages.  They can even be programed to display different languages in multicultural areas. INDECT’s LED matrix signs also allow Oklahoma University to instantly change parking designations and wayfinding directions during an event or emergency.

The University of Houston will be the first site in the USA to install INDECT’s pillar signs on their rooftop parking lots. Pillar signs incorporate standard high visibility symbols and digits with the option of back-lit, static images etched into the body.  The signs are mounted on a concrete base making them resistant to impact by vehicles.

As an increasing number of universities across America make the decision to invest in parking guidance, the need for flexible, intelligent signage is becoming clear.
