Dutch rail traffic is expected to increase by about 30 percent in the coming years. Rail infrastructure operator ProRail, rail company NS and the city of The Hague see the signs of this development every day, for instance in the growing number of bicycles that are parked at and around the railway stations. Substantial investments are being made in bike parking facilities around the city to make cycling to and from the stations more attractive. At The Hague Central Station this takes the form of an underground parking facility with space for 8,500 bicycles.

Welcoming and Green Showcase 

The bike parking under Queen Juliana Square offers cyclists in The Hague excellent facilities and a direct connection to the extensive public transport network. Upon arrival and departure, the comfortable and innovative parking garage acts as a welcoming and green showcase for The Hague. Damp-open Flooring System

The new bike parking under Queen Juliana Square features a custom developed damp-open version of the Boligrip® 50 flooring system. This allows any ground water vapour to easily evaporate through the floor, preventing water accumulation and thus blistering in the synthetic floor finish. On the other side, the innovative flooring system prevents harmful substances like (moped) fuel from penetrating and corroding the concrete.

 Aesthetic and Functional Use of Colour

In a place that sees many thousands of cyclists pass through every day, issues such as safety and routing obviously need to be well thought out. Bolidt shared its expertise on this with the customer, which is reflected in elements like the colour scheme, signing and finish, which all contribute to safety. The choice of texture is based on usage and designed to prevent cyclists from slipping.
