Future-Proofing EV Charging With CCV
How Cloud-Based Payment Solutions Empower CPOs

The rapid growth of electric vehicle (EV) adoption has brought both opportunities and challenges for Charge Point Operators (CPOs). While expanding charging networks is essential to meeting rising demand, integrating card-present payment solutions remains a major hurdle. We understand the pain points which CPOs encounter when offering more flexible payment options to EV drivers.
Cloud-Based payment solutions
In Cloud-based payment solutions, the integration of payment can be centralized into the Charge Point Management System (CPMS), where it’s made available for CPOs to link to a single or multiple charging stations in real-time. This simplifies maintenance, speeds up installations and allows the solution to keep up with evolving standards and regulations (i.e. AFIR). It also means that the step for CPOs to include more flexible payment solutions to charging stations becomes much smaller, leading to increased acceptance of the charging network.
Addressing the key challenges faced by CPOs for payment terminal integration
Charge Point Management System provider be.ENERGISED and payment terminal provider CCV have implemented a fully OCPI-based payment terminal integration, designed to empower site operators of all sizes to address key challenges in public and semi-public charging environments:
1. Simplified Integration:
By using OCPI in the cloud-based be.ENERGISED to CCV integration, we eliminate the need for direct communication between charging station and terminals, and thus, making it available for your entire charger estate.
2. Effortless Scaling:
Whether you manage a single charging site or a network spanning multiple countries, the system’s modular design and compliance features enable hassle-free scaling.
3. Ease of Management: A single interface within the CPMS for managing terminals, pricing, and invoicing.
4. No additional contracts, be.ENERGISED as your partner: No need for separate contracts with payment processors or acquiring banks.
5. Retrofitting and expansion of charging locations: Retrofit existing or power new charging stations with our seamless payment solution.
Ensuring Compliance: Future-Proofing Your Charging Infrastructure
When used with CCV's IM range card acceptance terminals the solution enables EV operators to simply and easily align with EU’s Alternative Fuels Regulation (AFIR) and UK’s Public Charge Point Regulation to offer a transparent payment option for drivers who prefer to pay with their regular credit or debit card.
The aim of AFIR, which went into effect in April 2024, consists of a range of new regulations for the electromobility and charging infrastructure sector. The regulation mandates transparent tariff information and a payment card reader on all public EV charging stations beyond the 50 kW charging speed in the EU, with an aim to make e-mobility more accessible to all without a subscription or contract. For the charging industry, this means that operators must deploy stations with payment card readers that will allow EV drivers to seamlessly pay ad-hoc, wherever they go across Europe.
For the UK, the Public Charge Point Regulation mandates that all public charging stations above 8 kW installed from November 24th 2024 onwards must have a payment terminal installed as well. Public charging stations providing 50 kW or more also have this requirement, regardless of installation time.
A Holistic Payment Solution: Fully Integrated into be.ENERGISED
One of the standout features of our solution is its end-to-end integration into the be.ENERGISED CPMS system. By leveraging the latest OCPI 2.2.1 Direct Payment Module, we ensure a seamless cloud-to-cloud connection with CCV’s entire payment terminal portfolio for EV charging.
No third-party backend or additional connections are necessary to integrate the payment terminal, giving CPOs a seamless experience. be.ENERGISED handles all key processes, including terminal management, pricing and cost configuration for charging sessions, as well as invoicing and compensation. ChargePoint also takes care of managing payment service provider contracts and ensuring full compliance with upcoming eInvoicing regulations, making the solution ready for multi-country operations and effortless European expansion.
Supported with CCV Cloud- Connect EVC solution:
- A payment terminal portfolio for every need:
- Compact contactless terminal IM15 with front- and flush mounted form-factors.
- 3-in-1 contactless/chip-card/magstripe terminal IM30 with large 5” screen
- Built-in optional 4G modem for full flexibility in installations, power up and go.
- PIN entry on all terminals to avoid rejected transactions
- Link with every OCPP-compatible charging station possible (hardware-independent)
- Payment terminal mounted on charging stations or a separate kiosk/pole
- No more integration with each charging station. be.ENERGISED and CCV took care of this already.
Conclusion: The Future of EV Payments is Here
