Urban mobility is a constant challenge for growing cities, and more municipalities are opting for smart solutions to optimize public space. Castellón de la Plana, Valencia, and Lugo are three examples of how Urbiotica's technology, together with funding from FEDER funds, has improved traffic and parking management, benefiting both the administration and citizens.

Castellón de la Plana: Smart Control of Loading and Unloading

With an economy driven by tourism and local commerce, Castellón needed to improve the availability and control of its loading and unloading zones. To achieve this, 800 U-Spot M2M sensors were installed, allowing for:

  • Real-time monitoring of parking spaces and instant alerts for violations.
  • Greater compliance with regulations, reducing fraud in space usage.
  • Smoother traffic flow, preventing double parking and improving urban mobility.

Valencia: Towards More Efficient and Accessible Parking

Valencia's growth brought challenges in public space management, traffic, and accessibility. In collaboration with Pavapark and Urbiotica, the City Council implemented an M2M sensor system in PRM and loading/unloading parking spaces. This project continues to expand with the addition of 2,000 new sensors, reaching a total of 3,060 active sensors in the city.

Among the benefits:

  • Increased efficiency in public space usage, optimizing mobility.
  • Reduction of traffic caused by parking searches.
  • Improved accessibility, ensuring that reserved spaces are used correctly.

Lugo: Smart Parking as Part of the "Lugo Smart" Project

As part of the Lugo Smart initiative, backed by RED.es, the City Council deployed 200 U-Spot sensors in parking spaces on Rúa Doutor García Portela and the public parking lot at the Lugo City Hall offices. The goal: to reduce congestion and make parking easier for citizens. The solution includes:

  • Solar-powered information panels displaying real-time parking availability.
  • A mobile app for drivers to check parking status.
  • Less congestion and lower pollutant emissions thanks to reduced parking search times.

These projects have been made possible thanks to funding from the FEDER funds, which support sustainable mobility initiatives.

At Urbiotica, we not only develop technology to improve urban mobility but also have experience assisting municipalities in defining projects that can benefit from FEDER funding and EDIL Plans.

And remember, applications for FEDER funding can be submitted until February 28, 2025, through the National Subsidies Database.
