Cutting Pollution by Parking

A unique and innovative solution was needed to solve the challenging parking problems faced by the Leicester City Council, United Kingdom. Trying to ease traffic congestion into the Leicester city centre and to cut pollution, WPS Parking Systems proposed a unique solution; the WPS integrated Park & Ride Ticket Management Solution
A solution that combines the strength of the WPS parking management solutions with a cost-effective, low-emission bus service into Leicester city centre.
Efficient
Not only was the Leicester City Council trying to ease traffic congestion and cut pollution, they also had a number of key criteria that had to be addressed in a way that would enable an efficiently run operation. In order to prevent vehicle queues at the entrance of the parking no barriers were allowed. However, the proposed solution had to ensure that car park occupation is solely and exclusively by those who use the bus service. In order to cut cost associated with cash collection from unattended pay stations , payment is made on the bus rather than within the car park.Unique

We required a solution that combined on-bus ticketing to car park management, and WPS offered the most robust solution. There is no system like this in the UK, comments Tony Kirk, Passenger Transport Unit Group Manager of the Leicester County Council.
First implemented at the state-of-the-art Enderby Park & Ride interchange, the Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council are already considering having this unique WPS solution installed at more Park & Ride interchanges around the city of Leicester.
